Terms of Service
The short version
- LaceLock is free to use. Use it sensibly and within the law.
- You own the photos you add. You let us store them and show them publicly: on the map, on shared activity pages, and on LaceLock's public trail and place pages.
- Photos are for places. No close-ups of people, nothing unlawful, nothing that is not a place.
- Every photo is checked before it is shown, and anyone signed in with a confirmed email can report a photo.
- You can delete your photos, or your whole account, at any time. If you delete your account, your live photos stay on the map, no longer linked to you, unless you choose to remove them or ask us to.
About these terms
These terms apply when you use LaceLock: the app on iOS and Android, and the website at lacelock.uk. LaceLock is operated by Roberto Katalinic, trading as Big Dog Software Development ("we", "us").
By creating an account or adding photos, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
The service
LaceLock is an outdoor map and GPS track-recording service for hikers, walkers, trail runners, cyclists and mountain bikers. It is free and has no paid features.
Maps, routes, search results and weather forecasts can be wrong or out of date. A path on the map may be closed, unsafe or on private land. Use your own judgement outdoors, and do not rely on LaceLock alone to keep you safe.
We may change, pause or stop parts of the service.
Your account
- You must be at least 16 to create an account.
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what is added from your account.
- You need a confirmed email address to sync your data or add photos.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, for example by adding photos that are not allowed.
Your photos
You own the photos you add. Adding a photo to LaceLock does not change that.
By adding a photo, you give LaceLock permission to store it, make resized copies, remove its camera details, and show it publicly: on the map in the app and on the web, on shared activity pages, and on LaceLock's public web pages about trails and places, including when those pages are previewed in search results and on social media. This permission is free of charge, applies wherever LaceLock is available, and does not stop you using your photo in any other way. It continues after you delete your account, unless you ask us to remove the photo. It ends when you delete the photo or we remove it; our backup copy is removed the next night.
When you add a photo, you confirm that you took it, or that you have the right to post it.
Photos are for places. A photo must not:
- Show a person who can be identified, unless they have agreed. Close-ups of faces and photos mostly filled by people are blocked automatically, even with consent.
- Show nudity or sexual content.
- Be unlawful, or help or encourage anything unlawful. This includes any sexual image of a child, terrorist content, intimate images shared without consent, and harassment, threats or stalking.
- Be offensive, hateful or abusive.
- Break someone else's copyright or other rights.
- Be something other than a place: no screenshots, adverts, memes, or photos of documents or text.
- Be placed somewhere misleading on purpose, or be used to show where someone lives.
Limits and checks
- Up to 20 photos per activity.
- Up to 50 photos per account per day.
- A total storage limit for all of LaceLock (currently 20 GB). When it is full, new photos are refused until space is freed.
- Every photo is checked automatically for nudity and people before it is shown. Photos with faces close up, or mostly filled by people, are rejected and never shown on the map. Photos that may show nudity are held for a manual check and appear only if a person approves them. If the check is not working, all photos are held for a manual check.
- A new account's first 5 photos are looked at by a person before they appear on the map or on our web pages. This usually takes a day.
- A held photo that is not checked within 30 days expires. You can add it again.
Reporting and takedown
If you are signed in with a confirmed email, you can report any photo from the photo viewer. Pick a reason: not a place, offensive, privacy, wrong location, or other. Each account can report a photo once.
If three different accounts report the same photo, it is hidden from the map automatically until we look at it. Our trail and place pages drop it at their next update.
We review reports and can hide, restore, approve or delete any photo. We may remove a photo that breaks these terms without telling you first.
If you cannot use the Report button, for example because you do not have an account or the photo shows you, email us (see Contact). If a photo may be illegal, please tell the police as well.
If we reject, hide or remove one of your photos and you think we got it wrong, email us within 30 days. We keep rejected and hidden photos for 30 days so that a mistake can be undone.
Where the law requires it, or to protect someone, we may pass illegal content, and what we know about who added it, to the police or other authorities. When an account is deleted, a photo that stays is no longer linked to it. Our database backups still hold the old link for up to 30 days; after that we no longer hold a link between the photo and an account.
Deleting your photos and your account
- You can delete any of your photos at any time. It leaves the map and our server straight away, and our backup copy follows the next night. If you delete an activity, its photos are removed with it.
- You can delete your account in the app (Settings → My Account → Delete account) or at lacelock.uk/account-deletion. This removes your account and your synced tracks and routes. Your live photos stay on the map and on our trail and place pages, and are no longer linked to you, unless you tick “Also remove my photos”. Photos placed at the start of an activity, and photos that are held, rejected or hidden, are always removed. After your account is deleted, email support@lacelock.uk with the photo's link, or its place and date, and we will remove it.
- When a photo is removed, its image is gone from our servers within a day (straight away for a single-photo delete, as above). After that our trail and place pages show no picture, and they drop it at their next publish. Search engines, link previews and browsers may keep their own copies for a while.
What we keep, and for how long, is set out in our Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. We will flag material changes in the app or by another appropriate method.
